Friday Rainbow Baby Blog: August 19

"August 19th is about honouring and remembering the lives of babies and children that could not stay with us. By doing this we are speaking out about the death of babies whether it is through pregnancy, infant or even child loss."
~Carly Marie

Remembering Lyra, and all the other sweet babies who are gone too soon.

On a very different note, today is:

This past week, Simon has taken to inching around. He lies on his back, arches it, and pushes with his legs. He doesn't get very far, but it's something new for him and he seems to be somewhat proud. It's made diaper changes more interesting, that's for sure.

His quickest mode of transportation is his rolling. He hasn't even considered crawling yet. I'm sure it will happen when he's ready. He likes to practice standing though, and has really strong legs. If he's anything like me, he'll skip over the crawling and go to the walking. Ultimately, he'll do his own thing though, and we'll just be patient and see.

The newest thing that cracks us up is how he feels everything. Think the 'bye bye' motion...just the main four fingers moving up and down. He does it all the time on new fabrics and his diapers and toys...EVERYTHING. And it's how he makes his spinning toys go...he's a pro at it.

We'll see what this next week brings!

  1. I know that challenging diaper change stage—we're there too!

    Remembering Lyra with you today.

  2. It's interesting to hear what Simon is up to. Elena hasn't figured the backward scootch thing. She's too busy doing the downward dog.

It seems that this week I have walked with two friends who have recently lost their daughters and so it is soothing balm to think that today is a day of hope. I like the saying, "I'm not afraid of talking about stillbirth", because that's exactly what gave comfort to my friends. Talking about it and remembering their girls. And so I think of Lyra today too.

  3. Ha ha...totally could have written that myself!!!! Luke does the very same thing...and that's his total mode of transportation! He is starting to get up on all fours and rock a bit, but quickly remembers he can scoot ALL.OVER.THE.ROOM on his back like you described and goes for it. Yes...makes diaper changes ever so much fun!
The pediatrician saw him do it at his 6 month check up and said babies do that...it's common...but not usually as common is when they do it for purpose like Luke obviously does--he TOTALLY knows that it's how he can get somewhere and fast...so, maybe Luke's been giving Simon pointers!!! Silly (and adorable and lovable and wonderful!) boys!!! xoxoxoxo

  4. I had no idea that August 19 had any meaning--while not a stillbirth, coincidentally that's the two year anniversary of our first miscarriage.

Hannah seems to be at a similar stage! She does this gentle scratching motion on everything now, especially my neck as she grabs for my necklaces.
